William Henry Harrision Monument

The 9th U.S. President and the first from Ohio, William Henry Harrison sits astride a horse at the west end of Piatt Park. Harrison, whose home was just west of Cincinnati in North Bend, led a successful political campaign as an Indian fighter and war hero. Unfortunately, he died from pneumonia, a month after his inauguration in 1841, which is the shortest term of office of any U.S. president. Artist Rebisso's portrayal of Harrison is the only equestrian sculpture in Cincinnati, and the horse's elevated front leg indicates his rider was wounded in battle. This piece, like other early monuments, was commissioned through public subscriptions.
