6 U.S. Marine Corps Memorial 1921
Sarah Ayers Kruthap (1894-1980)
bronze on granite base
Lytle Park, East Fourth Street

This memorial contains a three-dimensional representation of the U.S. Marine Corps emblem mounted on a rough-cut block of granite. A bronze plaque lists the names of Hamilton County Marines who died in World War I. In the center of the two-column list is the portrait of Corporal Merril Law Ricketts who gave his life in that war. Ricketts' father, a Cincinnati physician, commissioned this tribute from Kruthap, who was the first local female artist to create a public memorial.
